Cube Gallery-osa/MERZEN/

Based on the influence of the work by Kurt Schwitters, osa is developing an installation in the space of the CUBE gallery. The installation incorporates Schwitter's collage technique which he called 'Merz'. This is a method of rearranging objects such as paper, timber, wire, text snippets and paints. The materials osa are using are collected and provided by the city of Manchester, the public have been encouraged to bring materials with them when they view the installation.

A part of the gallery has been turned into a material store linking back to the former function of the building as a warehouse. The installation will grow in three different stages and the public is invited to watch the installation being created.

I went to see the exhibition on the first day so the installation had not really begun, however I think it is a great idea and I am looking forward to seeing the final installation. There is lots of materials that they had collected such as road signs, bricks, slates, tiles, wood, plastic etc. I liked walking around the gallery while the artists were working on the installation. The installation will next develop on the 26-28 February and 25-28 March.
